Peregrinations – A Bird’s Eye View by Eyebrow Arts

Peregrinations: Norfolk and Norwich Festival 2021 by Holly Bodmer

Bird’s Eye View: was live art performance at Norwich cathedral By Eyebrow Arts (Dot Howard and Sorrel Muggridge)and Corton House residential care home Norwich.

Alongside the peregrines themselves, the core inspiration behind ‘Bird’s Eye View’ has been the words, language, and observations of the peregrine Bloggers and residents at Corton House care home, as they too watched the nest box via the live web cam and shared their thoughts and observations with us.

“They are all now engaged with these chicks (which is great) and it has encouraged conversations with residents who are normally not engaging with others…It’s wonderful to hear them taking such an interest”.

Maria, Activities Co-ordinator, Corton House.

When visiting the cathedral to research, observe and devise, Dot and Sorrel have taken advice from J A Baker’s book ‘Peregrine’:

“To be recognised and accepted by the peregrine you must wear the same clothes, travel by the same way and perform actions in the same order. Persist, endure, follow, watch.”

With thanks to the staff and residents of Corton House for their eager participation and to all of the enduring, persistent watchers who follow and celebrate the peregrine’s behaviour.

walking inside out

Laura Nanni and I have been working together through our lock down year, we have created a dialogue through exchanged walks, taken in our homes and when allowed, beyond our front doors. The walking scores and resulting exchanges are recorded through directions, maps and images. we have shared a selection of these on our instagram page:

Wild Wander

I was really luck to participate in Wild Wander an artist research project organised by Glasshouse Dance. They invited 10 artists to participate in three walks lead by 3 Provocateurs: Sound artist Mick Challis, Nature writer Mark Cocker and Choreographer and Dance Rosemary Lee.

Each took us on a walk, in a place totally new to me. inviting us to see it from a new perspective, to engage with it through the lens of they use. The result was a wonderful mix of adventure and reflection. enabling us to take their provocation and discover where it might lead us.

For me this has cemented my desire to experiment further with a new process in making walking artworks.

Refreshing my online presence

I have spent the last few years being very active making liveart with EyebrowArts www.eyebrowarts.co.uk and running a forest school as a new extension to my artistic practice.  I  have totally neglected my online presence, so I am in the process of  creating a new space to share my work with my long term collaborator Laura Nanni on instagram.https://www.instagram.com/sorrelandlaura/?hl=en

We are embarking on a new series of journeys together.

Oakwell is full of secrets

Just back from a fantastic weekend researching at Oakwell Hall.

On friday I did some consultation with children about how they explore. Thank you to Amanda for letting me join her and the School on a meadow survey – some seriously good bugs and flowers caught in the rings of those flying hula hoops. Thank you to the kids for all your hiding suggestions and stories.

On saturday I did some more exploring with families this time, thank you to everyone who joined me.  Your input has been fantastic and I am so inspired I can’t wait to get writing.

Through the Grass and Beyond The Trees…..

hide5

A walking adventure that invites families to take a journey through Oakwell Country Park, using a set of playfully incomplete and poetic directions to find ‘the perfect place to hide.’

I have devised a site-specific walk that invite you to intertwine your ideas, experiences and imagination with the place you are in and to re-explore your landscape from a fresh perspective.

I will be at Oakwell Hall as part of We Do’s Bear Hunting and Other Ways To Walk Festival. I will be there to start you off on your adventure and then you can come share with me the perfect hiding place they lead you too.

If you can’t make it on August 23rd you will be able to return there and use the directions to find a place to hide any time you like – either pick up a printed copy or use the QR codes on site to access a digital version.

Date: Sunday 23rd August

Time: 11am – 3pm

Price: FREE event, no booking required

Venue: Oakwell Hall, Nutter Lane, Birstall, Batley, Yorkshire WF17 9LG

CHANGE SPACES | Sorrel Muggridge   Gallery II | 25 May – 19 July 2012

A Gallery II new commission in collaboration with:

Lisa Cumming: Programme for a Peaceful City, School of Social and International Studies

David Robison: Senior Lecturer; mobile content, new media and narrative, Bradford Media School

How does conflict feel?  What choices do we have to make?  What changed?  What change is needed?

We have all experienced conflict and change in our lives.

Artist Sorrel Muggridge draws on ideas gathered and developed during a period of research, to create an experimental, interactive installation which responds to the experience of being involved in conflict situations and change.  Sorrel is using the dynamic processes involved in rope making as a metaphor for the experience of peace building and conflict transformation.

You are invited to take part in this process.  Come and make rope with us on the night and add your experiences to the installation or hear how others are responding to these questions.
